Joseph Lester Powell, also known as Jody Powell, was born on September 30, 1943 in Vienna, Georgia. He attended the U. S. Air Force Academy from 1961 to 1964 and graduated with a B.A. in political science from Georgia State University in 1966. He attended graduate school at Emory University from 1967 to 1970. A journalist and writer, editor of Zgoda, the official publication of the Polish National Alliance of the U.S. of N.A., Joseph Wiewiora was born and educated in Poland. He began his journalistic career as a teenager with the now defunct Dziennik Zjednockzenia. In 1929-1930, he worked for Gwiadzda Polarna with Waclaw Gasiorowski in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, returned to Dziennik Zjednoczenia in 1930 and under the editorship of Frank Barc became the youngest city editor in Chicago in 1931.
